Ethan 227f20df6a perf(coderd): cheaper chatd org membership checks (#24361)
This change reuses the authenticated subject's existing organization
membership information during chat creation instead of issuing an
`OrganizationMembers` query.

The current query is still correct, so this is not required for
correctness. However, `workspaceapps` already answers the same question
more cheaply from the request's RBAC subject. This extracts that logic
into `rbac.Subject.HasOrganizationMembership` and reuses it in both
places, removing an extra database lookup from chat creation without
changing the authorization behavior.

I'm currently debugging a Coder agents scaletest regression where a run
on April 2, 2026 with 4800 concurrent chat creations passed, while the
same run on April 15, 2026 does not. We could stagger chat creation to
reduce the burst, but I'd rather understand why this bottleneck appeared
in the first place so we can keep making small hot-path improvements
like this one instead of only smoothing over the symptom.

Callum Styan 730edba87a fix: fix false positive disconnected agent metric reporting (#24225)
We noticed during higher active workspace counts that the agent
connection metric, generated via a query to the database, would report a
relatively high amount of agents as disconnected. Somewhere between 5
and 20%. However, other metrics such as # of websocket connections would
suggest that all agent connections are healthy.

Looking at the `Agents` function in prometheus metrics, plus the query
execution time (not accounting for actual database RT time) revealed
that this reporting of agents as disconnected was almost certainly false
positives due to clock drift in the way we're generating the metric
values. At 10k metrics, with a p50 of 2ms and p99 of 5ms, the entire
`agents` function could take upwards of 50s to execute. Because we were
doing a query/database RT to query th apps for each agent individually,
and grabbing a `time.Now` value on each iteration of that loop, it's
likely the portion of agents that were reported as disconnected were
those that had last heartbeat the furthest in the past.

The fix here is to set a consistent `now` before fetching agent data to
avoid clock drift inflating the inactive timeout comparison, and replace
the per-agent app query N+1 with a single batched lookup to prevent loop
execution time from pushing agents over the disconnected threshold.

Ethan f4dc8f6b11 test: use non-monitoring RPC role in apptest setup (#23953)
Closes https://github.com/coder/internal/issues/1432
Closes https://github.com/coder/internal/issues/1399

The test setup in `createWorkspaceWithApps` opens a short-lived RPC
connection to fetch the agent manifest before starting the real agent.
This connection used `ConnectRPC()` which sends no `role` parameter, so
the server treated it as a real agent connection and enabled connection
monitoring. When the helper closed, its monitor asynchronously wrote
`disconnectedAt` to the DB — racing with the real agent's monitor and
transiently marking the agent as disconnected.

The fix uses `ConnectRPCWithRole(ctx, "apptest-manifest")` so the helper
doesn't trigger connection monitoring. The server already has this
role-based distinction for non-agent clients like
`coder-logstream-kube`; the test helper just wasn't using it.

Both issues share this codepath: `setupProxyTest` →
`createWorkspaceWithApps` → the `ConnectRPC` call at `setup.go:518`.
Both test configurations have a non-empty `PrimaryAppHost`, so both
enter the affected block.

This is not masking a product issue — the "disconnected" state was
caused by two competing monitors writing to the same agent DB row, a
scenario that only exists in this test setup. No assertions were
weakened; the proxy still checks real agent connectivity on every
request.

Rowan Smith c33812a430 chore: switch agent gone response from 502 to 404 (#23090)
When a user creates a workspace, opens the web terminal, then the
workspace stops but the web terminal remains open the web terminal will
retry the connection. Coder will issue a HTTP 502 Bad Gateway response
when this occurs because coderd cannot connect to the workspace agent,
however this is problematic as any load balancer sitting in front of
Coder sees a 502 and thinks Coder is unhealthy.

The main change is in
https://github.com/coder/coder/pull/23090/changes#diff-bbe3b56ed3532289481a0e977867cd15048b7ca718ce676aae3f3332378eebc2R97,
however the main test and downstream tests are also updated.

This PR changes the response to a [HTTP
404](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Reference/Status/404)
after internal discussion.

Cian Johnston 4c63ed7602 fix(workspaceapps): use fresh context in LastUsedAt assertions (#22863)
## Summary

The `assertWorkspaceLastUsedAtUpdated` and
`assertWorkspaceLastUsedAtNotUpdated` test helpers previously accepted a
`context.Context`, which callers shared with preceding HTTP requests. In
`ProxyError` tests the request targets a fake unreachable app
(`http://127.1.0.1:396`), and the reverse-proxy connection timeout can
consume most of the context budget — especially on Windows — leaving too
little time for the `testutil.Eventually` polling loop and causing
flakes.

## Changes

Replace the `context.Context` parameter with a `time.Duration` so each
assertion creates its own fresh context internally. This:

- Makes the timeout budget explicit at every call site
- Structurally prevents shared-context starvation
- Fixes the class of flake, not just the two known-failing subtests

All 34 active call sites updated to pass `testutil.WaitLong`.

Fixes coder/internal#1385

Cian Johnston 81468323e0 fix(coderd): use dbtime.Now() instead of time.Now() in test assertions against DB timestamps (#22685)
`time.Now()` has nanosecond precision while Postgres timestamps are
microsecond precision. When tests compare `time.Now()` against
DB-sourced timestamps using `Before`/`After`/`WithinRange`/etc., there
is a non-zero flake risk from the precision mismatch.

This replaces `time.Now()` with `dbtime.Now()` (which rounds to
microsecond precision) in all test assertions that compare against
database timestamps.

Follows from #22684.

cryptoluks fcf431c1d7 fix(coderd/workspaceapps): prefer app session cookie over Authorization (#22041)
This PR fixes a workspace app authentication bug where requests that
include an `Authorization` header (intended for the upstream app) can
cause Coder to ignore the workspace app session cookie
(`coder_subdomain_app_session_token_*` /
`coder_path_app_session_token`). When that happens, Coder fails to mint
or renew `coder_signed_app_token` and redirects to
`/api/v2/applications/auth-redirect` instead of proxying the request to
the workspace.

This commonly shows up when users run a frontend and backend in the same
workspace and the backend requires `Authorization` (for example, `curl
-H "Authorization: bearer ..."` or browser `fetch()` calls).

Related issues / context:

## Root Cause

In `coderd/workspaceapps/cookies.go`, `AppCookies.TokenFromRequest`
checked `httpmw.APITokenFromRequest(r)` first. That helper returns a
token from several places, including `Authorization: Bearer ...`.

As a result, when a request included an upstream `Authorization` header,
that header value was returned as the “session token” for the app proxy,
and `coder_subdomain_app_session_token_*` was never read. Authentication
then failed and the request was treated as signed out.

## Fix

Change the precedence in `AppCookies.TokenFromRequest`:

1. First check the access-method-specific cookie:

   * subdomain apps: `coder_subdomain_app_session_token_{hash}`
   * path apps: `coder_path_app_session_token`
2. If not present, fall back to `httpmw.APITokenFromRequest(r)` (so
non-browser clients can still authenticate via query, header, or bearer
tokens if they really want to).

This ensures that:

* Backend requests that require `Authorization` still reach the
workspace.
* `coder_signed_app_token` can be renewed from the app session cookie
even when `Authorization` is present.
* `Authorization` is still forwarded to the upstream app (the reverse
proxy code does not strip it).

Initially, I attempted workarounds
([https://github.com/coder/coder/issues/20667#issuecomment-3868578388](https://github.com/coder/coder/issues/20667#issuecomment-3868578388),

but adding `/auth-redirect` to the permissive CORS paths and extending
the validity of workspace app auth tokens from 1 minute to 1 hour only
partially masked the issue. After workspace restarts and token expiry, I
no longer saw CORS errors, but the tokens were still not renewed.

After patching my local Nix-based setup on Coder v1.30.0 with this
change, I can no longer observe this behavior.

Cian Johnston 08343a7a9f perf: reduce number of queries made by /api/v2/workspaceagents/{id} (#21522)
Relates to https://github.com/coder/internal/issues/1214

The `ExtractWorkspaceAgentParam` middleware ends up making 4 database
queries to follow the chain of `WorkspaceAgent` -> `WorkspaceResource`
-> `ProvisionerJob` -> `WorkspaceBuild` -- but then dropping all that
hard work on the floor. The `api.workspaceAgent` handler that references
this middleware then has to do all of that work again, plus one more
query to get the related `User` so we can get the username. This pattern
is also mirrored in `getDatabaseTerminal` but without the middleware.

This PR:
* Adds a new query `GetWorkspaceAgentAndWorkspaceByID` to fetch all
this information at once to avoid the multiple round-trips,
* Updates the existing usage of `GetWorkspaceAgentByID` to this new
query instead,
* Updates `ExtractWorkspaceAgentParam` to also store the workspace in
the request context

```
import (
	"time"
	"github.com/prometheus/client_golang/prometheus"
	"golang.org/x/xerrors"
	"gopkg.in/natefinch/lumberjack.v2"
	"cdr.dev/slog/v3"
	"github.com/coder/coder/v2/codersdk/agentsdk"
	"github.com/coder/serpent"
)
```

3 groups: standard library, 3rd partly libs, Coder libs.

This PR makes the change across the codebase. The PR in the stack above modifies our formatting to maintain this state of affairs, and is a separate PR so it's possible to review that one in detail.

Spike Curtis 49b34a716a fix: fix slog to always use array of Fields (#21426)
Upgrades to slog v3 which includes a small, but backward incompatible API change to the acceptible call arguments when logging. This change allows us to verify via compile time type checking that arguments are correct and won't cause a panic, as was possible in slog v1, which this replaces (v2 was tagged but never used in coder/coder).

It also updates dependencies that also use slog and were updated.

I've left the `aibridge` dependency as a commit SHA, under the assumption that the team there (cc @pawbana @dannykopping ) will tag and update the dependency soon and on their own schedule.

Other dependencies, I pushed new tags.

Asher 3a0e8af6e3 feat: add view workspace button to app error page (#20960)
Closes #19984

As part of this, I refactored the error template to take in a slice of
actions rather than using individual booleans and strings to control the
behavior.

We decided a link resolves the issue for now so that is what I added,
although we may want to consider a way to start the workspace and follow
the logs dynamically on that page and then show the app when finished
(similar to the tasks page), or at least make the link automatically
start the workspace instead of only taking you to the dashboard where
you have to then start the workspace.

Mathias Fredriksson f6556fce9f test(coderd/workspaceapps/apptest): fix lastusedat assertion for all test (#20827)
The test flake can be verified by setting `ReportInterval` to a really
low value, like `100 * time.Millisecond`.

We now set it to a really high value to avoid triggering flush without
manually calling the function in test. This can easily happen because
the default value is 30s and we run tests in parallel. The assertion
typically happens such that:

	[use workspace] -> [fetch previous last used] -> [flush]
	-> [fetch new last used]

When this edge case is triggered:

	[use workspace] -> [report interval flush]
	-> [fetch previous last used] -> [flush] -> [fetch new last used]

In this case, both the previous and new last used will be the same,
breaking the test assertion.

Rafael Rodriguez d29a52462b feat: remove agent name from app URLs (#19750)
## Summary

In this pull request we're removing `agent_name` from subdomains in APP
urls when an `app` is used in the subdomain. `agent_names` will still be
used when a `port` is used in the subdomain.

Closes: https://github.com/coder/coder/issues/18485

### Changes

- Updated regex to support an optional agent name
- Added logic to support checking the app slug for a matching port
(e.g., 8080 or 8080s)

### Testing

- Updated all tests to support an optional `agent_name`

Dean Sheather 42dd544d90 fix: use unique cookies for workspace proxies (#19930)
There is currently an issue with subdomain workspace apps on workspace
proxies, where if you have a workspace proxy wildcard nested beneath the
primary wildcard, cookies from the primary may be sent to the server
before cookies from the proxy specifically.

Currently:
1. Use a subdomain app via the primary proxy `*.coder.corp.com`
    a. Client sends no cookies
    a. Server does token smuggling flow
a. Server sets a cookie `coder_subdomain_app_session_token` on
`*.coder.corp.com`
    a. Server redirects client to reload the page
    a. Request should succeed as usual
1. Wait until the primary proxy's session token cookie has expired in
the database (or make it invalid yourself)
1. Use a subdomain app via a separate proxy `*.sydney.coder.corp.com`
a. Client sends `coder_subdomain_app_session_token` cookie from
`*.coder.corp.com`
    a. Server validates supplied cookie, it fails because it's expired
    a. Server does token smuggling flow
a. Server sets a cookie `coder_subdomain_app_session_token` on
`*.sydney.coder.corp.com`
    a. Server redirects client to reload page
    a. Client sends BOTH cookies.
a. The server will only process the first cookie it receives, so if the
expired cookie for the primary proxy is sent first the request will end
up in a permanent loop on step b.

The fix is to append `_{hash(wildcard_access_url)}` to the subdomain
cookies as we cannot control browser behavior further. This avoids the
conflict as each proxy will only read it's specific cookie.

Callum Styan ffbfaf2a6f feat: allow bypassing current CORS magic based on template config (#18706)
Solves https://github.com/coder/coder/issues/15096

This is a slight rework/refactor of the earlier PRs from @dannykopping
and @Emyrk:
- https://github.com/coder/coder/pull/15669
- https://github.com/coder/coder/pull/15684
- https://github.com/coder/coder/pull/17596

Rather than having a per-app CORS behaviour setting and additionally a
template level setting for ports, this PR adds a single template level
CORS behaviour setting that is then used by all apps/ports for
workspaces created from that template.

The main changes are in `proxy.go` and `request.go` to:
a) get the CORS behaviour setting from the template
b) have `HandleSubdomain` bypass the CORS middleware handler if the
selected behaviour is `passthru`
c) in `proxyWorkspaceApp`, do not modify the response if the selected
behaviour is `passthru`

Ethan 08e17a07fc chore!: route connection logs to new table (#18340)
### Breaking Change (changelog note):
> User connections to workspaces, and the opening of workspace apps or ports will no longer create entries in the audit log. Those events will now be included in the 'Connection Log'.
Please see the 'Connection Log' page in the dashboard, and the Connection Log [documentation](https://coder.com/docs/admin/monitoring/connection-logs) for details. Those with permission to view the Audit Log will also be able to view the Connection Log. The new Connection Log has the same licensing restrictions as the Audit Log, and requires a Premium Coder deployment.

### Context

This is the first PR of a few for moving connection events out of the audit log, and into a new database table and web UI page called the 'Connection Log'.

This PR:
- Creates the new table
- Adds and tests queries for inserting and reading, including reading with an RBAC filter.
- Implements the corresponding RBAC changes, such that anyone who can view the audit log can read from the table
- Implements, under the enterprise package, a `ConnectionLogger` abstraction to replace the `Auditor` abstraction for these logs. (No-op'd in AGPL, like the `Auditor`)
- Routes SSH connection and Workspace App events into the new `ConnectionLogger`
- Updates all existing tests to check the values of the `ConnectionLogger` instead of the `Auditor`.

Future PRs:
- Add filtering to the query
- Add an enterprise endpoint to query the new table
- Write a query to delete old events from the audit log, call it from dbpurge.
- Implement a table in the Web UI for viewing connection logs.

I did not add frame-ancestors, since if I understand correctly, those
would go on the app, and this middleware does not come into play there.
Maybe we will want to add it on workspace apps like we do with cors, if
we find apps are setting it to `none` or something.

Mathias Fredriksson de41bd6b95 feat: add support for workspace app audit (#16801)
This change adds support for workspace app auditing.

To avoid audit log spam, we introduce the concept of app audit sessions.
An audit session is unique per workspace app, user, ip, user agent and
http status code. The sessions are stored in a separate table from audit
logs to allow use-case specific optimizations. Sessions are ephemeral
and the table does not function as a log.

The logic for auditing is placed in the DBTokenProvider for workspace
apps so that wsproxies are included.

This is the final change affecting the API fo #15139.

Cian Johnston 172e52317c feat(agent): wire up agentssh server to allow exec into container (#16638)
Builds on top of https://github.com/coder/coder/pull/16623/ and wires up
the ReconnectingPTY server. This does nothing to wire up the web
terminal yet but the added test demonstrates the functionality working.

Other changes:
* Refactors and moves the `SystemEnvInfo` interface to the
`agent/usershell` package to address follow-up from
https://github.com/coder/coder/pull/16623#discussion_r1967580249
* Marks `usershellinfo.Get` as deprecated. Consumers should use the
`EnvInfoer` interface instead.

Codebase currently uses both v3 and v4 versions of the `go-jose`

the latest v4 version.

Spike Curtis 2c7f8ac65f chore: migrate to coder/websocket 1.8.12 (#15898)
Migrates us to `coder/websocket` v1.8.12 rather than `nhooyr/websocket` on an older version.

Works around https://github.com/coder/websocket/issues/504 by adding an explicit test for `xerrors.Is(err, io.EOF)` where we were previously getting `io.EOF` from the netConn.

Spike Curtis 5861e516b9 chore: add standard test logger ignoring db canceled (#15556)
Refactors our use of `slogtest` to instantiate a "standard logger" across most of our tests. This standard logger incorporates https://github.com/coder/slog/pull/217 to also ignore database query canceled errors by default, which are a source of low-severity flakes.

Any test that has set non-default `slogtest.Options` is left alone. In particular, `coderdtest` defaults to ignoring all errors. We might consider revisiting that decision now that we have better tools to target the really common flaky Error logs on shutdown.
